Like millions of kids before her, the L.P. discovered Harry Potter, and was enchanted. She insisted on a H.P. birthday party 2 weeks before the fact, so the madness began.
As most moms can tell you, most goodie bags kinda suck. (although, the bff's mom makes great ones!) They are typically filled with those little plastic tops that you wind up stepping on at 3:00a.m. when your child has a fever, and candy that's too hard to eat. Soooo, being the lunatic that I am, I thought it would be nice to make all the kids wizard robes. Of course, they would need wands with which to cast their spells, and spell books so they didn't accidentally turn their friends into frogs when they meant to make them levitate!
On this page you'll see how I put it all together. There are a few things missing though. I don't have any pics of the hand drawn "Marauder's Maps", because frankly, they were a bit of an afterthought, and were stuffed in the envelope as soon as the ink dried, (and yes, it had to dry, 'cause I used a quill style dip pen). I also don't have a picture of the finished invites, again no time to loose getting them in the mail, and I can't exactly post the addresses of the party goers online, I don't think they'd like me very much if I did!
For my own robe, I uses the paletot pattern, sans sleeves, because I know it fits, and it's got those great pleats in the back. The sleeves are just rectangles gathered into the armscye. Made of horrible panne velvet, and some nasty poly lining I had lying about, it is not my best work. But I did finish it in about 10 hours, start to finish.
All in all, we had a great time! I'm still getting calls from moms telling me their kids are running around the house in their robes, shooting curses at everything that moves.
