Costuming My Bliss

Bubble Gum Dress

1839 fashion plateSo what does one make a little girl to wear to a Victorian picnic?  A bright pink dress with white lace of course!  The Fashion plate above was the inspiration for this dress.  I just love the combination of pink and white, and of course the L.P. couldn't have loved it more either. Because of the color and the fluff, I dubbed it the Bubble Gum Dress.

I used Simplicity 3725 as a starting point.  I shortened the bodice to just above the natural waist, getting rid of the point completely.  I added curved back seams, and of course there is no zipper.

For the skirt, I just used 2 panels the width of the fabric, which was 52",  22" long.

If the fabric looks at all familiar, that's because it's left over from the Faire Frock.

This project was made entirely from stash fabric and trim.

This simple petti adds more volume and smooths out the lines of the corded one under it.
