This is the next major project on my list. It comes from the book, "Authentic Victorian Fashion Patterns" The book contains reprints of actual patterns of the 1890's. There are minimal sewing instructions, as the patterns were intended for the professional dress maker of the time. But if you know a bit about how patterns work, and are not afraid to scale them up, you should be able to put them together.
The project will consist of all underpinnings needed to obtain the proper silhouette, as well as the dress itself.
I'm in the process now of making the corset, (I've got the mock up done and fitted, I just need to order the hardware). I've also begun scaling up the pattern. That's going quite well actually.
The end date for this project is April 18th, 2009.
I've got my eye on some beautiful striped fabric that would be perfect. I just have to see if I can nab it!
Well, I didn't nab that fabric I was after. The new plan is to use a purple and cream striped silk I found at fashionfabricsclub.com. I'll probably pair it with a black cotton velvet for the jacket.
As for progress, so far, I've got the pattern scaled. And.....Well, that's about it. I plan to put in an order for the corset supplies this week. I also need to finish sewing the eyelets in the mock up so I can put it on Gemma and start the pattern alterations.
As of now 4/01/09 this project is on hold. *cries* I really want it, but as I now have no where to wear it, I'm having trouble justifying the making. However, I do have most of the materials I need, so I'm hoping to get back to it once some of my other projects are out of the way.
